Today we woke at 4am – everyone familiar with the routine from the day before. Luck was on our side today and after a quick game of hackie-sack we were flying above the clouds. The quick 25-minute flight got us to Lukla at around 8:00am and after some organising we were finally trekking! We decided to walk to our initial camp site at Ghat instead of doing two days in one. We plan to make up for the lost day later in the trek when we are fitter and more acclimatised. We arrived at our camp site in Ghat at around midday; playing hackie-sack until lunch at 12:30. Lunch was a blur of sandwiches, potato, tuna, veg and warm mango juice, perfectly prepared by the Sherpas and our cook Tika.
We then went for a short walk to explore the village and take some pictures of the bubbling blue river. On the walk to camp we came across a lovely young girl and her mother. She wanted her picture taken and when Ryder showed her the picture she laughed and laughed and laughed. Her laughter was so contagious. It was one of those moments which will stick with me, it’s a reminder that life can be simple and slow but still the most beautiful thing in the world (next to the mountains, of course).
We went to bed with very full bellies, excited for tomorrow’s adventure. By Ryder
