Day 14 : 30-08-2015
Aeroplane Corner
The early morning start was cancelled because the strong southerly was still blowing at dawn. By mid morning it was dying away quickly so I set off aiming for Shepherds Bay on Hunter Island. Across the channel I spied a narrow strip of what looked like sand closer to the tip I need to paddle around tomorrow, so I changed plans again and steered for it. It turns out to be less like sand and more like pebbles but I managed to get the tent up in flat spot above high tide.
There was a big fire here a year or two ago that has burnt most of the top part of the island. On the ground new plants are quickly growing up but it has left the dead sticks of the burnt shrubs and trees. I walked up to the top along a rough track and could see over to Albatross Island across the Dangerous Banks. This is a shallow patch of water with waves breaking over it. Have to paddle well clear of it tomorrow. Walking back to camp a large pod of 15+ dolphins came south down the channel below me. It's become so calm I could hear them blowing air as they jumped ahead of each other. Tomorrow to Albatross!
