Dead Cow Bay was named after a dead cow, just one and it didn't smell. You mightn't guess it from the name but it was actually a beautiful stretch of coastline! I departed on low tide and immediately hit a ripping current going the wrong way around the point. I had to paddle as hard as I could just to inch forward. Phew, it took half an hour just to go a few hundred meters. But once past the point it calmed down and progress was easier. Then the current turned south and helped speed me along. This is a tricky coastline!

Stack Island hideaway
Into Hunter Passage I passed the southern tip of the island and entered calm waters. My shoulder was aching so I looked for a campsite on Stack Island. It's a small island with mostly rocky coast and a little beach. Washed up on the sand I found little sacks of something like seaweed (photos), but I don't know anything about them. They are natural and float with air in them. Are they a type of seaweed, egg sac of something else? I also found the shell of a sea urchin. It's amazing how the shell survives being tossed up on the beach as they are very thin and fragile.
