More evidence of devils on the island can be found on the ground in the form of scats- or poo for the less discerning amongst us. The devil scat in the photo has tell tale traces of fur and crushed bone in it. Compare it to the other scat in today's album which is strangley sqaureish and made up of discarded grass and plant matter. It's the scat of our common wombat. There's a funny poem about wombat poo, if anyone knows it can they please share it?

Grey skies and square poos
No paddling today with poor weather keeping me close to the shack. The furthest I ventured between showers was down to the beach to count birds. With binoculars I spotted 2x pelicans, 2x masked lapwing, 4x silver gulls, 1x tern (probably fairy tern), 8x pied oyster catchers and 49x sooty oyster catchers. Most of the oyster catchers were a long way away and the numbers might seesaw between the two species.
It looks like another day here tomorrow but better conditions to reach Three Hummock Island on Sunday. Thanks for the contributors to the discussions this week, especially Dr Rach who is teaching us all more about these wonderful shy albatross.
