Fiji Power 2016
Day 1 : 25-09-2016
Landed Safely in Fiji
What a day! We were so excited about our trip. We landed in Fiji at midday and were greeted by musicians at the airport singing beautiful songs in Fijian. Everyone was so friendly and we learnt a new word “ Bula “ which means hello in Fiji. We then had a relaxed afternoon by the pool and getting to know everyone in the group.
Hi my name is Shiloh, from Swan View Senior High School. My friend Jennifa and I first found out about this wonderful opportunity through Miss Katsere a science teacher at our school. We were both very eager to begin. We were asked to create a power point presentation on possible renewable energy sources that could be used for Ravi Ravi medical centre. We were extremely surprised to find out that we had been successful; even now when I’m in Fiji it still feels surreal and seems too good to be true. I can’t believe I have been given the chance to truly make a difference in this world and I intend to not waste it. I would also love to take the chance to thank Bookend Trust for funding this amazing cause, thank you for making this trip a reality.
Hi, my name is Lauren from Bunbury Senior High School. I found out about this project through my science teacher Ms Silk. I decided to participate in this project to try and help Fijian people and to find out more about culture. I think this trip would be a good experience . I created a PowerPoint presentation on renewable energy sources for a medical centre in Fiji but didn’t expect to be selected for this project. At first I was a bit hesitant since I didn’t know the other students who were selected, although I am glad to have come. I would also like to thank Bookend Trust because without them it I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to participate in this project.
Hi my name is Jennifa from Swan View Senior High School. My friend Shiloh and I entered a competition on renewable energy sources. We were selected for an all expenses paid for trip to Fiji to help install solar panels at a Medical Centre on Beqa Island. I am hoping to have an amazing experience and recognise how lucky I am to have some of the things I take for granted at home.
I am Alastair, I attend Woodbridge District High School. I heard about this opportunity when Andrew Hughes came and talked to us about this amazing experience . I spent my school term holidays working on the project. I then found out that I had been selected to go to Fiji. I could not believe it, as it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to help make a difference. Thank you Bookend Trust.
