Fiji Power 2016 Day 3 : 27-09-2016

Day three already, we can hardly beleive it, time is moving fast.  We learned more about the history of Fiji including that that Fiji was called the “Cannibal Islands” and that one of the first missionaries, Thomas Baker, was killed and eaten for touching the chief’s head.  His shoe is still in the museum.  We then worked as a team to complete a team building activity where we had to use two fingers each to put a pole on the floor; this is not as easy as it sounds. Try it at home. It made us realise how important communication is when working as a team.

After all the fun and games we filed into the van to embark on a two hour-long journey to Pacific Harbour. The scenery was very different from home in a lush tropical sort of way. In the van it was slightly crowded and hot, however we did have lots of fun singing along to the only song that was playing for the whole trip and that was “Messing Around”.   We made a quick stop at a shop/café called Baravi, to get some lunch and even tried some hot corn that we bought off the side of the main street.  After a long ride we finally made it to Mere’s  house where we were welcomed graciously into their home. For dinner we had our first homemade dinner in Fiji, courtesy of Mere, Mary and Mela and everyone really enjoyed it not only because it tasted fantastic but also because it gave an insight into the Fijian culture. After dinner we had a culture lesson on life in the village lesson from Mere and Ben.
