Fiji Power 2016 Day 4 : 28-09-2016

Last night we used our tents for the first time. The heat was a struggle because it didn’t really cool down and we had a difficult time sleeping. The barking dogs outside didn't help! Despite that we did enjoy our first experience of listening to the rain in Fiji. 

Our morning breakfast was blessed by Mere in Fijian. After breakfast we travelled to Suva by bus to pick up the solar panels and visit the museum. At the museum we learned about the early Fijians and their use of war clubs and a large double hulled boat called a drua. Next we walked to government house and got a photo with their security guard before heading off to the fish markets where we saw the biggest fish and crab we have ever seen.

Greg picked up the solar panels with a taxi and David had a meeting with officials from the Fijian Ministry of Health. They are so impressed with the work that Bookend Trust is doing that they will be sending Ministry of Health officials along with us for the two day installation of the solar power on Beqa Island.  

Once home we sorted out all the medical and school supplies in preparation for our trip to Beqa Island tomorrow. We would like to thank St John Ambulance Tasmania, Swan View Pharmacy (WA) and The Smith Family (WA) for all the medical and school supplies they donated to the Fijian communities. We estimate that over $3000 of medical supplies have been donated and will be distributed among a number of needy villages.
