There are two main colors in the rainforest, green and brown. Green leaves, moss and ferns, and brown trunks, dead leaves and fallen branches.

Arriving at Julius River the first job was to find a base camp. There's a lot of gear to lug in so I was happy to find a spot just a few hundred meters into the forest and well away from public walking tracks. A cool breeze wafted through but because the trees and understory plants are leafy and thick it'd never get really windy in here. If you wandered away 30 meters you'd disappear from sight, but at the same time it's easy to walk around because there are no thick ground cover plants. Everything is damp to touch and there's moss growing up trunks, on fallen logs and even on rocks.
I strung up the tarpaulin and put up the tent. They're both green so the camp blends in nicely. What's another biological word for blending in? There is an odd shaped branch on a myrtle that looks like a human elbow. I threw the rope over it and set up the tree house close to the ground. Yoav should be here by tomorrow and together we'll look for a suitable climbing tree to set up the house. There's going to be a lot to explore in this forest.
