Trek to Everest 2015
Day 12 : 10-12-2015
Thare to Phortse Tenga
By Anon
We awoke in Thare to a bitterly cold morning. Rugged up in all our warmest clothes, we reluctantly left the comfort and warmth of the lodge and our Karlo Chiya, and set off along the shady side of the valley. Walking quickly to get warm, we passed frozen waterfalls, mountain Tahr, and we were able to see where we had walked along the other side of the valley on our way to Gokyo. After about 45 minutes of ups and downs along the side of the valley, we began steadily descending through the forest towards our campsite at Portse Tenga.
It was not long before Doug spotted a Musk Deer, an endangered species in the Sagamartha National Park. Our senses had been tickled, and the next 30 minutes were taken up by stalking and photographing fanged Musk Deer and Danphe (pheasant), the crazily coloured national bird of Nepal. Once at camp, we had a token game of hacky sack with a couple of our porters Sonam and Pemba and our Sherpa guide Chherin. A few people went for a walk in search of the elusive Musk Deer, while others retreated to quite corners and tents to write journals and read books.
- What animals did the team stalk?
- Hacky sack
- -10 overnight. Bitterly cold morning, icy icy wind.
