“Hello, this is your morning wakeup call” – these are words we were woken up to at 4am this morning! We all woke up with butterflies of nerves and excitement because this was the day we would be flying into Lukla, voted the most dangerous airport in the world. After arriving at the airport and seeing the tiny plane we would be flying in, it can be said that we felt less than safe. This feeling wasn’t helped when we looked out the window and saw a tractor towing a plane. Once we had taken off we were put at ease by the beautiful views and first impression the Himalayas had to offer. Everyone had their cameras out and were snapping away the whole trip. However these nervous feelings returned when we saw the extremely short runway... on a disconcerting angle... on the side of a mountain.
After cheering the pilot, breathing in the fresh air and again being overwhelmed by the surreal views which surround Lukla we commenced our trek into Ghat. The beginning of the Himalayas continue to amaze us, where ever we look, we feel that photos cannot do the views justice and there is no way to describe the sensation of being somewhere as beautiful and amazing as these ones.
