Trek to Everest 2015
Day 4 : 02-12-2015
Monjo to Namche Bazaar
By James Roberts
The morning of our third day of trekking beckoned a welcome, cooler shift in temperature which made for pleasant walking. We really seem to be settling into the rhythm of waking up, eating, then walking (we are all making excellent nomads). The biggest challenge today undoubtedly presented itself in the changing altitude; we climbed a vertical height of 600 meters to our camp based at 3440 meters, right around the point at which the general lack of oxygen starts to become noticeable. Fortunately, the entire group has done marvellously so far; we all kept a steady pace, and though we are all rather tired, we are feeling happy and healthy.
It should be noted how fabulous this group of people are (I can barely believe I’ve only known some of these people for a matter of days), and our Sherpa crew are some of the nicest and down-to-earth people we have ever met. Highlights of the day included our crossing of ‘the high bridge’, a one hundred meter long swinging bridge that is about as high as, and significantly less sturdy than the Tasman Bridge in Hobart (also: some chap rode a horse over it), having an amazing lunch break and taking an entertaining evening stroll to the exact place where you would be able to see Mt Everest if clouds weren’t a thing.
Alternative question of the day: ‘How much should Tina have paid for a fake pair of Raybans?’
Answer: Wayyyyyyyyyyy less (she paid 3500 rupees - approximately 50 Australian dollars)
- What is the oxygen concentration in air at different altitudes?
- rhythmn
- Not supplied
- Why does higher altitude mean less oxygen available?
